NPFL Super Six: Matchday three preview

The 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League – NPFL Super Six playoff enters matchday three on Wednesday June 7. SPORTSRATION presents a preview.

BENDEL INSURANCE VS ENYIMBA INTERNATIONAL FC

A continuation of their fierce battle in group A of the regular 2022/2023 season.

Bendel Insurance are still unbeaten ahead of the game vs The Peoples Elephants.

The Edo Arsenal have been on a run of draws in the NPFL and this has extended into the Super six playoffs where they have shared spoils vs Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars.

Enyimba FC sit on top of the standings with four-points from a 2-2 draw vs Remo Stars on matchday two and a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars on Monday June 5, while Insurance occupy fourth place with 2-points.

This is perfectly poised on paper to be the toughest match of day three.

A win for Enyimba FC will end Bendel Insurance hopes of winning the title and so Monday Odigie and his boys will give the Elephants a fight under the Sun in Lagos.

REMO STARS VS SUNSHINE STARS

Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars will square-up in a South-west derby on matchday three of the NPFL Super Six Playoffs.

Both teams are without a win after two games at the playoffs.

Remo Stars have battled to 2-2 draws vs Enyimba FC and Rivers United FC while Sunshine Stars fell 0-1 to Rivers United on matchday one before a 1-1 draw vs Insurance.

The winner of this contest will launch a charge for honours at the playoffs while a draw could be ghastly for the title ambition of both teams.

Coach Daniel Ogunmudede of Remo Stars will have to find solution to his leaking defence if the Sky Blues must finally get a win at the playoffs.

For Edith Ogoye of Sunshine Stars, the concern is with the attack, their only goal of the playoffs was scored by central defender Ekerette Udom.

LOBI STARS VS RIVERS UNITED FC

Lobi Stars and defending Champions Rivers United FC square-off in the last game of matchday three.

Both teams met in the regular season, and their most recent encounter 49-days ago ended in a 2-2 draw.

Rivers United FC edged Lobi Stars to take top-spot in group B of the regular season and will start this game as favourites.

At the playoffs, the Pride of Rivers are in second place with four points, same as table toppers Enyimba FC who defeated Lobi Stars on matchday two.

Benue State Government powered Lobi Stars have a single point on the log from the opening day draw vs Insurance.

Still without a goal at the Super Six playoffs, Lobi Stars are up against a Rivers United FC team who will stick their necks out in search of maximum points.

Just like in all three matches of the third day, both teams still have a good chance of pressing for the title or at least a top three spot and so will fight for the win.
