Pakistan fight back as Windies collapse in Barbados

A late West Indies collapse on day four has seen Pakistan again grab control of the second Test in Barbados.

On the back of Shai Hope’s (90), the hosts were well-placed at Kensington Oval before losing 29-5 late on Wednesday.

Yasir Shah (6-90) inspired the late Pakistan fightback as the Windies finished the day at 264-9 – a lead of 183 runs ahead of what promises to be an intriguing final day.

A patient Hope had starred earlier in the day on a deteriorating wicket offering plenty of spin and uneven bounce.

But he fell short of a maiden Test century thanks to Yasir, whose late wickets could prove to be crucial in a three-match series Pakistan already lead 1-0.

The Windies resumed at 40-1 and quickly lost Shimron Hetmyer (22), who was clean bowled by Mohammad Amir (1-44).

Hope and Kraigg Brathwaite helped settle the hosts with a 56-run partnership, helping West Indies into a lead.

Yasir removed Brathwaite (43) courtesy of a fine catch at first slip from Younis Khan, with the leg-spinner causing plenty of problems.

First-innings centurion Roston Chase (23) was the next to go before Hope reached his maiden Test fifty.

With the Windies in complete control, the Test turned back in Pakistan’s favour in the final hour.

Hope picked out Azhar Ali at cover off Yasir before Vishaul Singh, the other settled batsman, fell off the next ball to Mohammad Abbas (2-57) for 32.

It triggered a collapse as Jason Holder (1) was brilliantly caught by Younis and Shane Dowrich (2) also fell to Yasir.

Yasir had six wickets before stumps by removing Alzarri Joseph (7) as Pakistan stormed back into the game, with Devendra Bishoo (16) and Shannon Gabriel (0) unbeaten at the close and needing early runs on Thursday to push the Windies further ahead.
