Paul Scholes: ‘Manchester United were disappointing’

Paul Scholes has said that he ‘wouldn’t rely’ on Manchester United beating Wolfsburg in their final Group B game to seal qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League. Louis van Gaal’s side drew 0-0 at home to PSV Eindhoven on matchday five, which means that they must now win away at Wolfsburg if they are to be sure of their progression to the knockout stage.

After the game, Scholes told BT Sport that Man Utd’s season on the whole has been “disappointing” so far.

He said: “It’s the story of the season really. It’s disappointing. “I think they created chances here and there but nothing major. Jesse [Lingard] should score and that’s the game done. “You have to win your home games if you’re going to qualify.

They have a chance against Wolfsburg but I wouldn’t be relying on that.” Scholes scored 107 goals in 499 Man Utd appearances between 1993-2013.
