Saville glad Mikel getting the plaudits Chelsea fans never gave him

George Saville is verg glad John Obi Mikel is getting the plaudits he never got while playing for Chelsea at Middlesbrough.

Former Chelsea teammates, and now Middlesbrough teammates, George Saville is familiar with Mikel Obi and he explains how glad he is seeing the Nigerian being recognised for his role.

Often criticised while at Chelsea by the fans despite playing in the cup finals he won with the London-based club and most importantly playing a key role in winning the 2012 Champions League title.

The reverse is the case with Middlesbrough fans who sing his praises all along on matchdays despite only joining Tony Pulis’ side this January.

“I was with him at Chelsea and he was the same back then. I’m absolutely buzzing to have him here to be honest,” he said.

“He’s just got that presence.

“You just know he’s there all the time. He does all this stuff that a footballer won’t usually get credit for but he’s been getting the plaudits, which is good.

“He does the hard stuff really easy. He’s been a big lift for us.

“He’s a really nice guy off the field as well. He’s a fantastic guy. He’s polite, which goes a long way for me. He’s really nice to have around the place.

George Saville who has played alongside Mikel Obi in the midfield at Middlesbrough further explained that the Super Eagles captain gives the team the freedom to attack.

“But yeah, he has given us the license to go and push and the confidence to push high up the pitch and cause havoc.”

George Saville who was a Chelsea player between 2011-2014 never had the chance to play alongside Mikel Obi because he never played any game for the first time before he left the club.
