Sevilla FC and NPFL forge new collaboration to boost Nigerian football
Seven-time UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla FC are deepening their engagement with Nigerian football through a new partnership with the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
This collaboration was solidified in a recent meeting between NPFL President Gbenga Elegbeleye and Sevilla FC President JosĂ© MarĂa del Nido Carrasco.
During his visit to Sevilla, Elegbeleye toured key facilities, including the iconic RamĂłn Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium and the club’s prestigious trophy room. The visit underscored Sevilla’s commitment to enhancing its relationship with Nigerian football.
This partnership follows Sevilla’s recent acquisition of Super Eagles forward Ejuke Chidera, who has joined the club from CSKA Moscow and is set to stay until 2027. The collaboration aims to leverage Sevilla’s expertise to support the development of Nigerian football, focusing on nurturing young talent and improving NPFL clubs.
JosĂ© MarĂa del Nido Carrasco expressed enthusiasm about the alliance, stating, “We are very happy to work with the Nigerian Professional League. Sevilla FC believes this partnership will assist NPFL clubs in improving and developing youth players. It is a significant step in our internationalization process and will help our brand grow in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, where we have received great support following Chidera Ejuke’s signing.”
Gbenga Elegbeleye welcomed the collaboration, highlighting its benefits for Nigerian football. “We have 20 clubs in the NPFL, each with its own youth academy. Sevilla FC’s long history of success and its robust youth development programs present a valuable opportunity for us. We expect that top players from our Youth League will benefit from training at Sevilla and return as better players. Additionally, our coaches will gain from this training agreement, making it a win-win for everyone involved in the NPFL.”
Elegbeleye also noted the growing interest in Sevilla FC among Nigerian football fans following Ejuke’s transfer. “The signing of Chidera Ejuke has increased interest in Sevilla FC across Nigeria. Football fans are eager to learn more about the club, and Sevilla’s fan base here is expanding every day.”
