Shabani Nonda not yet FECOFA President
The reports doing the round that former Monaco striker Shabani Nonda has become the new president of DR Congo Football Federation (FECOFA) is false, confirms SportsRation.
It was all over social media that Shabani Nonda one of Monaco’s 2004 European Champions League runners-up stars has become the latest retired football to become an administrator.
Just like Samuel Eto’o did with Cameroon, and Didier Drogba attempted with Ivory Coast, it felt like a win for football with the Shabani Nonda news.
But the news has now been confirmed to be false at the moment.
According to a popular Dr. Congo journalist Iragi Elisha, the news is just a fantasy at the moment as Shabani Nonda is yet to purchase a form and the elections are yet to take place.
“The report that Nonda has submitted was false,” wrote Iragi on his page.
“The election is prepared for June and FIFA canceled the FECOFA plan in December 2021.
“As Cameroon with Eto’o, people expect to see Nonda, Ilunga Hérita or a younger one to take responsibility.
“Let’s wait, but not yet.”
While Shabani Nonda represented other European clubs such as Roma, and Galatasary – his feat with Monaco will stand out for many.
His goal-scoring record especially the semifinal goal against Chelsea in Monaco’s 3-1 first-leg win in France would still be remembered.
Shabani Nonda was the French Ligue 1 top scorer with 26 goals in the 2002-2003 season.
