Sinner gets praise for Early Indian Wells Preparation

After a difficult stretch of results, Jannik Sinner has taken a proactive step ahead of the BNP Paribas Open by arriving early in California to prepare for the tournament.

The Italian, who has yet to win a title this season, suffered a semifinal loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open before seeing his run at the Qatar Open end in the quarterfinals against Jakub Mensik.

Former WTA star CoCo Vandeweghe praised the decision, saying arriving early can give players a significant advantage in Indian Wells where conditions can be tricky.

“What I love is what he has done after that event. He immediately called up Darren Cahill and said we’re going to come to Indian Wells early,” she said.

“He’s already been here for a week and that’s so important when it comes to the conditions that all these players are going to be talking about. The hot days where it is just absolutely ruthless, the ball is jumping all over the place, to the cold evenings where the ball is really difficult to move out here.”

Despite recent setbacks, Vandeweghe expressed confidence in Sinner’s ability to bounce back.

“I think Jannik Sinner, the ultimate professional, I’m not worried one little bit. He’s going to improve where he needs to improve and feel better about himself.”

Sinner himself confirmed he has been putting in long hours on court as he prepares for the tournament.

“This training week has been very tough for me, with many hours of practice, but I am happy with how I feel on the court,” he said.

“Right now, I’m trying to be a bit more aggressive from the baseline, we’ll see where it takes me.”

The world No. 2 will begin his campaign in the second round at Indian Wells against either Dalibor Svrcina or Rafael Jodar as he looks to regain momentum early in the season.
