Spalletti speaks highly of Osimhen’s leadership, and right mentality
... says Victor Osimhen is one of Napoli's leaders
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has spoken very highly of Victor Osimhen’s ‘right mentality’ and leadership.
Luciano Spalletti who has turned Napoli into one of the best teams in Europe revealed the importance of Victor Osimhen off the pitch.
With his contribution of 19 league goals in 20 games, a total of 21 goals in 25 games in all competitions, Osimhen is one of those doing the talking on the pitch.
But Luciano has revealed during his post-match conference after a tough 2-0 win at Empoli that he and Victor Osimhen had a go at each other at halftime.
With Victor Osimhen reminding him of what happened in the previous season. Last season, Napoli were leading 2-0 at Empoli but ended up losing 3-2.
In fact, they lost to Empoli over two legs in Serie A.
“At the end of the first half, he was a little angry with me as well going into the break as I had told him off. The first thing he said was, hey, don’t forget what happened last season. Osimhen is a leader, he has the right mentality, the desire to work with the collective and fight for the result.
“That can also damage him because once again today he had a couple of chances that he didn’t take because he was tired from having worked so hard just before that.”
Victor Osimhen also spoke highly of his manager during his post-match.
“It’s good for the coach to have this confidence in me. It’s only right for me to try to replicate it on the pitch and do my best for the team,” Osimhen told DAZN.
“Spalletti is a coach who demands more from all his boys, in training he demands we give our all and go for the maximum. Now I understand him even more, he motivates me on the pitch as well as trying to correct me by screaming at me! That is normal, I think every coach does that.
“He has confidence in his boys, he gives us the strength we need, and the way to repay him is to give our all on the pitch and make him happy. I know that he is satisfied, but he still needs more from the boys and we will keep on giving him our best.”
