Super Eagles in Europe: Week One Midweek Round-up

Victor Osimhen was named Man of the Match after another impressive showing for Napoli in the UEFA Champions League against Braga. The 24-year-old was unlucky to not get on the scoresheet as his side ran out 2-1 winners in Portugal.

Samuel Chukwueze made his first start for AC Milan as they welcomed Newcastle United in their UEFA Champions League opener. The 24-year-old forward featured for 61 minutes before he was taken off for Christian Pulisic, and the game ended in a goalless draw.

Zaidu Sanusi started for FC Porto in their 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League. The Super Eagles star featured for the first 45 minutes before being replaced at half-time by Wendell.

Alhassan Yusuf made his UEFA Champions League debut for Royal Antwerp as they were walloped 5-0 by Barcelona. The midfielder came on in the 60th minute for Jurgen Ekkelenkamp.

Peter Olayinka was a second-half substitute for Red Star Belgrade in their 3-1 defeat to champions Manchester City. He came off the bench after 68 minutes to replace Mirko Ivanic in the game.

Sadiq Umar came off the bench to appear for Real Sociedad in their 1-1 draw at home to Inter Milan. The lanky striker was a 72nd minute substitute for La Real, replacing Mikel Oyarzabal in the match.

In the UEFA Europa League, last season’s goal king Victor Boniface provided a goal and an assist for Bayer Leverkusen as they cruised to a 4-0 win over BK Hacken in their group stage opener.

Chuba Akpom came off the bench in the 84th minute for Ajax in their 3-3 draw at home to Olympique Marseille in the Europa League.

Cyriel Dessers came off the bench for Rangers in their 1-0 win over Real Betis, replacing Kemar Roofe in the 88th minute of the encounter.

Former Flying Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu was on the scoresheet for Slavia Prague in their 2-0 win over Servette. He scored the second goal of the game to seal the win for his side. Muhammed Tijani also appeared off the bench for the Czech side in the match.

Ademola Lookman featured for Atalanta in their 2-0 win over Rakow Czestochowa in the Europa League. The forward lasted 76 minutes before he was replaced by Mario Pasalic for the Italian side.

Rafiu Durosinmi played for 87 minutes as Viktoria Plzen claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Ballkani in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Raphael Onyedika lasted the entirety of the match for Club Brugge as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Turkish giants Besiktas.

Tolu Arokodare featured for 18 minutes as KRC Genk were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Fiorentina. The striker came off the bench in the 72nd minute as a replacement for Andi Zeqiri in the game.

William Troost-Ekong played the entire game for PAOK as they defeated HJK Helsinki 3-2 at home in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
