Team Akwa Ibom Shines At National Sports Festival with Eight Medals on May 20
It was a joyful Tuesday, 20th May 2025, for Team Akwa Ibom, with eight medals won in one day at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The day began with a Bronze medal from Mfoniso Victor David in the Women’s Kung Fu Daoshu Demonstration at the Ereke Civic Centre in Ikenne. Just minutes later, Ofonime Augustine also won a Bronze medal in the Men’s Kung Fu Daoshu Demonstration.
More success came at the NYSC Camp in Shagamu where weightlifter Edidiong Umoafia won three Gold medals in the weightlifting event, bringing huge pride to the team.
Later on, Blessing Emmanuel added another Gold medal in the Women’s AYO event. In the Men’s AYO event, Vanger Bem Richard added to the team’s tally by winning a Silver medal.
The day ended on a high note for Team Akwa Ibom when Edikan Cletus, who won Silver in the 2022 National Sports Festival, claimed Gold in the Men’s Kung Fu event.
This great day means Akwa Ibom State now has a total of 10 medals after two days of competition: 6 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze. The team hopes to win even more as the festival continues in Ogun State.
