There is no better striker than Terem Moffi to lead Nigeria against Algeria

Terem Moffi is absolutely ready to lead Nigeria’s attack against Algeria on the 27th of September when both clash in Oran.

With injuries to Victor Osimhen who is a certain starter for Super Eagles, and Umar Sadiq another striker making waves in Europe.

Moffi looks like the best option to lead Nigeria against Algeria in the International friendly at Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Oran.

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, seems to fancy the 23-year-old striker who has played all four games under the Portuguese tactician, starting three and playing from the bench in one game.

Also considering his current form in comparison to the other eight strikers available for selection there is no one with better numbers.

Before dropping Terem’s numbers let’s look at the numbers of the other options

1. Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)

After joining for a record fee and scoring on his Premier League debut, Taiwo has become a fringe player. Not surprising when Nottingham Forest signed over 20 players in just one window.

Taiwo Awoniyi was on target on Friday when Nottingham Forest 2-3 to Fulham, it was his first goal in 6 Premier League games and his 2nd in 7 games.

In all competitions including one cup game, Taiwo Awoniyi has played a total of 345 minutes out of 720 minutes for Nottingham Forest.

2. Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City)

Kelechi Iheanacho was on target for Leicester City in the first game he was starting for the struggling Foxes last weekend.

It has not been the best season for Iheanacho who has again been dropped to the bench by Brendan Rogers. In all competitions, Kelechi Iheanacho has one goal and one assist in 6 games.

He has played a total minute of 248 out of 540 minutes in 6 games including a cup game.

3. Paul Onuachu (Genk)

Paul Onuachu has now gone five games without finding the back of the net. He has played a total of 121 out of 450 minutes without a goal.

Not sure he stands a chance as he continue to struggle for form.

4. Isaac Success (Udinese)

The former Watford and Granada striker was recently quoted begging for a playing time under the new Super Eagles coach.

Isaac Success has been consistent for Udinese this season but has played in 6 league games without finding the back of the net.

His only goal was in the Udinese Coppa Italia win earlier in the season. So, Isaac Success has played a total of 388 out of 630 minutes in 7 games including the Coppa Italia.

5. David Okereke (Cremonese)

David Okereke should be close to getting his first international game if the numbers count. He has been consistent for his newly promoted Italian club.

He has scored 2 games including a beauty against Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A and a total of 3 in all competitions this season.

David Okereke has played a total of 542 out of 630 minutes in 7 games including one Coppa Italia game.

6. Cyriel Dessers (Cremonese)

Cyriel Dessers was in the squad the last four games under the new coach Jose Peseiro – he was one of the best strikers in Europe at the end of the 2021/22 season.

He ended the season as the Europa Conference League top scorer. Cyriel Dessers also started the new season on fire scoring three league goals in three games for Genk in the Belgian topflight league before his move to Cremonese.

Since his move to the newly promoted Italian club, Cyriel Dessers has failed to find the back of the net but as an assist to his name.

In Cremonese colours he has played a total of 493 minutes (full match thrice) in 540 minutes.

7. Peter Olayinka (Slavia Praha)

Slavia Praha leading scorer in European competitions with 13 goals is another option.

Peter Olayinka has scored twice for Slavia Praha in the Europa Conference League. He is yet to find the back of the net in the league after three games.

In a total of 10 games, this season 3 in the league and 7 in the Europa Conference League including the qualifiers – Peter Olayinka has scored 4 goals and assisted 2.

8. Emmanuel Dennis (Nottingham Forest)

Just not yet his time, he has been sitting on the bench since he joined Nottingham Forest.
There could still be a space for him on the flanks.

9. Terem Moffi (Lorient)

Terem Moffi has been terrific for Lorient this season. He has scored a total of 6 goals in 8 league games with only Neymar Jr (8), and Kylian Mbappe (7) ahead of him at the time of this report.

He has been scoring different types of goals as he continues to drag Lorient who struggled to avoid relegation last season to title contenders this season.

Terem Moffi signed off for the International break scoring in Lorient’s 3-1 win at Auxerre, he is definitely going to be backed by Jose Peseiro to lead Nigeria’s attack against Algeria.

(NB: Even When Victor Osimhen was available for selection in the AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome – Terem Moffi started ahead of Cyriel Dessers, Sadiq Umar, and Emmanuel Dennis.)
