Tolu Arokodare Trains in Lagos with Boyhood Club Box2Box During Holiday
Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare is back in Lagos for his holiday and has been spotted training with his boyhood club, Box2Box FC.
The 24-year-old, who plays for Belgian side Genk, returned to the familiar pitch at Legacy Pitch in Surulere, where his football journey began. Arokodare’s visit to Box2Box FC, where he once trained as a young player before moving to Europe, brought smiles to fans and local coaches alike.
Though he also had spells at Kash Academy and Flying Sports Academy, it was at Box2Box FC that Arokodare first gained real attention. His raw talent impressed scouts and later earned him trials with European clubs like SC Freiburg and Toulouse.
Now one of Nigeria’s brightest football talents, Arokodare recently enjoyed a standout season in Belgium. He was named in the 2024/25 Belgian Pro League Team of the Season, after finishing as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals. He also won the Golden Boot and the Ebony Shoe Award – the latter given to the best African player in the league.
Despite Genk’s struggles in the playoffs, Arokodare’s goal-scoring form made him a standout striker in the league and a key name in the Super Eagles squad.
His return to train at Box2Box during the off-season is a touching reminder of his humble beginnings and a source of inspiration to young footballers in Lagos.
