Tributes for Amy Carr after Former England Youth Star dies

Tributes pour in for Amy Carr after Former England Youth International dies at 35

Amy Carr, a former England youth international who played for Arsenal W.F.C., Chelsea F.C. Women, and Reading F.C. Women clubs, has died at the age of 35 following a long battle with brain cancer.

Carr was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015 and spent more than a decade fighting the illness. Despite the challenges, she remained determined to make a positive impact, becoming an advocate for brain tumour awareness.

In 2024, she completed the Dublin Marathon to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, raising £28,718 to support vital research into the disease.

Confirming her passing, Brain Tumour Research paid tribute to her strength and determination.

“We are deeply saddened to hear that Amy Carr has died following her battle with a brain tumour, aged 35,” the organisation said.

“A former England youth international who played for clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal and Reading, Amy showed incredible strength and determination after being diagnosed with a high-grade brain tumour in 2015.”

Carr had undergone surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to treat a grade four astrocytoma. After initially believing the tumour had been successfully treated, the illness returned in 2024 following symptoms including blurred vision and slurred speech.

Doctors later informed her that the tumour had regrown and she was given a terminal prognosis.

During her playing career, Carr represented England 16 times at youth level up to the Under-19s and spent time with several top clubs in the English women’s game.

Following news of her passing, tributes have continued to pour in from across the football community and supporters who admired both her career and her courage off the pitch.
