Uzoho admits Ghana’s mistake promises to bring smiles back to the faces of Nigerians

Francis Uzoho has admitted that his mistakes cost Nigeria a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and have promised to bring a smile back to the faces of Nigerians.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper who was excellent in the first leg played in Kumasi was at fault for the early goal scored by Ghana in the second leg played in Abuja.

A low shot from Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey handed Ghana an early lead in Abuja last Tuesday.

Francis Uzoho who was Nigeria’s goalkeeper at the 2018 World Cup should have done better but he allowed the tame shot into the net.

Although Nigeria got an equalizer from the spot-kick and scored a goal that could have been the winner but Victor Osimhen was adjudged to have strayed into an offside position by the VAR.

Hence, the game ended 1-1 draw and Nigeria was eliminated with Ghana winning on the away goal rule.

And days after the game knowing his mistake was one of the reasons Nigeria failed to secure a ticket to Qatar 2022, Franci Uzoho has now sent an emotional message to Nigerians.

“These past couple of days have been the worst in my lifetime.

“I wanted to take my nation to Qatar but rather did the opposite.

“I know what football means to you all and to myself, I can’t promise not to make mistakes again but I can promise not to give up until I bring back that smile on your faces.

“Thank you for the support and God bless.

“IN CHRIST ALONE.”
