Victor Boniface goal lifts Leverkusen past Qarabag
Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface scored a late-penalty goal to lift Bayer Leverkusen past Qarabag in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, Novemeber 9.
With scores tied on 0-0, Boniface stepped up to score a penalty in stoppage time to Leverkusen maximum points as it finished 1-1 at the Tofik Bakhramov Stadium, Baku in Azerbaijan.
German Bundeliga table toppers, Leverkusen dominated posession 31/69 but shots attempts stayed level 11/11.
Boniface who started the match had at three shots in the game before clinically dispatching a penalty kick awarded after Maksim Medvedev was adjudged to have handled the ball in the first minute of additional time at the end of the 90′.
That victory seals Bayer Leverkusen’s place in the knockout stage of the competition after winning all four matches in the competition this season.
Qarabag sit in second place in the group with six points.
For Nigerian International, Victor Boniface, that was his 11th Bayer Leverkusen goal In all competitions.
Last season, Boniface finished as Europa League top-scorer with Royale Union Saint Gilloloise and has scored four times already in the competition this season.
