Victor Boniface reveals Xabi Alonso’s special ability that improves Leverkusen players
Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface has shed light on the special ability his coach Xabi Alonso has that improves players at the club.
Xabi Alonso recently guided Die Werkself to their first-ever Bundesliga title, marking a significant milestone for the club.
With Leverkusen also progressing to the final of the DFB Pokal and the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League under Alonso’s leadership, the former football star has quickly established himself as one of the most highly-rated coaches globally.
Boniface emphasised the impact of Alonso’s hands-on approach during training sessions, noting that the manager’s active participation sets him apart. “Imagine you’re training and your coach is doing better than you,” Boniface remarked in an interview with AFP. “Then you want to step up your game.”
He elaborated further, stating, “For him to be involved in training gives us a boost.” Boniface revealed that Alonso’s insights, drawn from his illustrious playing career where he won numerous accolades, serve as valuable guidance for the players. “Sometimes he tells me of players he played with, with similar abilities to me. He tries to improve me in my weakest areas,” Boniface added.
