Vincent Kompany leads Burnley back to the Premier League

Belgian manager Vincent Kompany has led Burnley back to the English Premier League after a 1-2 win at Middlesbrough on Friday April 7.

The Clarets, sealed a sensational top-flight return just one season after dropping to the Championship. Appointed at the start of the season, Kompany has masterminded a remarkable campaign which has seen Burnley lose just twice in the league all season.

Ahead of Fridays game vs Middlesbrough, Burnley knew a win would be enough to mathematically confirm their promotion and so set out to get the push over the line in record time.

In the match, Ashley Barnes was in the right place at the right time to turn in Josh Brownhill’s strike past a stranded Zack Steffen in the Middlesbrough goal.

Micheal Carrick tutored Boro responded just three minutes after the half-time interval through red-hot Nigeria-eligible forward Chuba Akpom who scored a penalty.

Connor Roberts scored the all-important winner in the 66th minute to clinch promotion for Vincent Kompany`s men with seven games to the end of the season, a record best since the rebranding of the English Championship.

With promotion sealed, Kompany and his in-form Clarets will shift focus to claiming the Championship title. Their closest challengers Sheffield United are 11 points behind.

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will all things being equal prepare for his maiden managerial stint in the English top-flight. Players from the Kompany-era like Lampard and Steven Gerrard have struggled to leave a mark in the Premier League so attention will be on Vincent to see if he can translate his teams Championship flair to the big stage next season.
