Warriors star Curry optimistic of returning on schedule

Stephen Curry said he is “feeling better” after spraining his knee and remains hopeful of making a comeback for the Golden State Warriors before his scheduled return date.

Reigning NBA MVP Curry suffered a strained medial collateral ligament during the Warriors’ win over the Houston Rockets in game four in their Western Conference first-round play-off.

A two-week timeframe was mentioned for Curry, who is trying to return before then as defending champions the Warriors prepare to face either the Los Angeles Clippers or Portland Trail Blazers in the Conference semi-finals.

“Feeling better but just got a ways to go,” Curry said Friday.

“I always have an optimistic view, no matter what it is. I hope to get back sooner.

“I haven’t talked to the doctors, athletic training staff, all the experts. That two-week timeline was, as [general manager] Bob [Myers] says, an educated guess.”

Curry, who averaged 20.1 points and 6.7 assists in the regular season, added: “It’s a lot of treatment. Trying to get a full range of motion back. Doing some things where I can keep my cardio up and my strength in the weight room.

“Just started riding the bike a little bit yesterday. All the things that can keep your body active while they’re still healing.”
