Watch as Benzema on-field leadership spurs Madrid to a 5-2 win at Liverpool

Karim Benzema did more than just score two goals to help Real Madrid secure a 5-2 comeback win against Liverpool at Anfield in a UEFA Champions League round of 16 first-leg game on Tuesday.

Two quick goals from Darwin Nunez, and Mo Salah gave Liverpool a dream start against Real Madrid at Anfield, and it looked for a second like it was going to be another rough day for Real Madrid.

Liverpool had never conceded more than three goals in a European Competition at Anfield, no team has ever won by a 3-goal margin having trailed by 2 in Champions League history.

It just looked like it was going to be Liverpool’s night, little did we know Karim Benzema and his Real Madrid teammates will still cook.

Vinicius Junior scored two goals in the first half to tally the score, and Real Madrid scored three more goals in the second half to complete a historic comeback win. Karim Benzema got his brace, and Eder Militao also scored one.

Well, Real Madrid’s comeback should not be a new thing to anyone who followed their road to winning the champions league last season.

They were on the way out in the second round against Paris Saint-Germain, in the quarterfinals against Chelsea, and also in the semis, against Manchester City, but somehow their superior mentality and experience took them over the line in those games.

And this was what happened at Anfield on Tuesday. But there was another side to this story, the impact of the club captain and reigning world best, Karim Benzema.

Going down 2-0 as early as 14 minutes at a stadium as noisy as Anfield will definitely weigh any team down, and yes, Real Madrid players looked dejected for a moment.

But they had a leader on the pitch in Karim Benzema, the French man went to all the players rallying, spurring them up and telling them to calm down.

They listened, and yes, in the end, Real Madrid won 5-2 becoming the first team in Champions League history to come from two goals down and win by a three-goal margin.

Also, the first team to put five goals past Liverpool at Anfield in a European game.
