WATCH VIDEO: Super Eagles New Boy Felix Agu Says He Loves Fufu and Egusi Soup
Super Eagles newcomer Felix Agu has expressed his delight at joining the Nigerian national team — and also shared his love for popular Nigerian dishes, fufu and egusi soup.
In his first interview as an official Super Eagles player following his clearance to represent Nigeria, Agu said: “I love to eat fufu and egusi soup. I also enjoy jollof rice with plantain.”
Although he admitted he is not the best cook, the 26-year-old Werder Bremen defender revealed he counts on his father to prepare his favourite meals.
Speaking about his warm welcome into the team’s camp ahead of the Unity Cup, Agu said: “It’s been one and a half days with all the guys. Everyone accepted me pretty well. It’s nice being here, and I’m happy to be called up. It was a pretty easy decision to come here.”
Agu also revealed that he has been following the Super Eagles for a while, even before his call-up, describing his first invitation to the team as a “huge honour”.
Head coach Eric Chelle recently named a mix of home-based and foreign-based players for the upcoming Unity Cup mini tournament, and Agu’s inclusion marks his first senior call-up just days after pledging his international future to Nigeria.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Agu previously represented Germany at U21 level. But now, he has committed to wearing the green and white of Nigeria.
In the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, Agu stood out by winning more penalties than any other player in the league — three in total — ahead of top attacking names like Nathan Tella, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Serhou Guirassy, who each won two.
Known for his clever movement and ability to draw fouls, the Werder Bremen full-back is now eager to bring that form to the international stage.
Agu has long shown a desire to play for Nigeria. In an earlier interview with Oma TV, he described playing for the Super Eagles as a dream come true.
“To play on the national level was always a dream of mine,” he said. “I had to make half of the decision already because I played for the German Under-21 team. I kept the door open and talked a lot with Justin Njinmah about playing for Nigeria. We both think it would be a dream come true.”
With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers coming up, the Unity Cup offers Agu the perfect opportunity to prove he belongs at the top level in Nigerian football.
