Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has been granted time off by the club after a family bereavement, SportsRation reports.
The Ivory Coast international will not be part of the squad for Saturday’s away game against Brentford. United manager Ruben Amorim said that football is “not important” at the moment.
Amad has played in all six of United’s matches this season, either as a number 10 or right wing-back, and started five of them.
“We’re giving Amad all the support he needs,” Amorim said. “The next game is not important right now.”
Social Media Criticism
Amad recently faced criticism from some Manchester United fans on social media after interacting with his close friend and ex-teammate Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho left United under difficult circumstances and now plays for Chelsea. The two were seen speaking after United’s win over Chelsea last weekend.
Following the backlash, Amad deleted all posts from his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts.
Amorim responded by saying:
“I tell my players the same thing — stay off social media. That’s how it is now. It’s part of the price players pay.”
“What matters most is the support from the club and real-life friends. We’re here for Amad. We want to win this weekend, and we want to win for him.”
Team News and Manager’s Comments
Defender Noussair Mazraoui will also miss the Brentford game. Amorim said the Moroccan international picked up a minor injury during the Chelsea match and is unlikely to return before mid-October.
Striker Bryan Mbeumo is set to return to Brentford, the club he left in the summer, now wearing United colours.
A win against Brentford would mark the first time Amorim has managed back-to-back Premier League victories at United. Despite this, many fans remain unsure if the team can find the consistency needed to qualify for the Champions League.
Amorim admitted:
“It’s normal that fans don’t know what to expect from us. Honestly, even I’m not sure — I have an idea, but I can’t guarantee how things will go.”
“The best approach is to treat every match like it’s the most important one. I understand the fans’ doubts. Let’s try to change that.”
