William Troost-Ekong favours Nigerian coaches for Super Eagles job

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has voiced his support for a Nigerian coach to lead the national team, rather than a foreign tactician.

His comments come as the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) continues its search for a permanent head coach, following the appointment of Austin Eguavoen as interim manager for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Troost-Ekong made his position clear during a pre-match press conference, saying, “I’ve always said that having a coach from Nigeria is an advantage. Someone who has been in our shoes and understands what we’re going through can bring that experience to the team.”

His remarks follow the NFF’s failed attempt to appoint German coach Bruno Labbadia after Finidi George resigned from his role as Super Eagles head coach in June. Despite the efforts to bring in a foreign coach, Ekong emphasized the value of a local manager with a deeper connection to Nigerian football.
