Wolfsburg bounce Arsenal again to set up UWCL final against Oshoala’s Barca

Pauline Bremer’s 119th-minute strike helped Wolfsburg beat Arsenal in front of a record crowd of 60,063 for a domestic women’s game in England and book a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

After a 2-2 comeback draw against Wolfsburg in the first leg played in Germany last week, Arsenal knew they had to play their best game at the Emirates Stadium to overcome the team who knocked them out last season in the quarterfinals.

In the 11th minute of the game, Stina Blackstenius put the home team up, but former Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord equalized for Wolfsburg with a long-distance strike in the 41st minute.

Thirteen minutes into the start of the second half, Wolfsburg captain Alexandra Popp gave her side the lead after heading in from an in-swinging corner.

Jennifer Patricia Beattie’s 75th-minute header restored parity for Arsenal to send the game into extra time.

Pauline Bremer scored in the last minute of the second half extra time when it looked like the game was heading for a shootout to give Wolfsburg a 5-4 aggregate win over Arsenal.

The win put Wolfsburg on a final showdown with Asisat Oshoala’s Barcelona, who are the heavy favorites to win the title after defeating Chelsea 2-1 on aggregate to book a place in the final.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg will take place on June 3rd at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, Netherlands
