Wolves Academy admit son of former Nigerian striker
Premier League club Wolves have announced their new intake of academy scholars for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, with a standout inclusion being Wesley Okoduwa, son of retired Nigerian international striker Emmanuel Okoduwa.
Per AllNigeriasoccer, twelve days ago, Wesley Okoduwa extended his stay with Wolves by signing a new contract, despite interest from Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United. The Molineux club has confirmed that Okoduwa is one of fourteen teenagers who have signed scholarship deals.
The other academy scholars include Emilio Ballard-Matthews, Reiss Bowen, Ryan Colesby, Myles Dayman, Josh Gidaree, Josh Gracey, Mateus Mane, Bjorn Marwa, David Osifo, Luke Rawlings, Max Ruddock, Alfie White, and Jake Wilcox.
Okoduwa aims to sign his first professional contract before his scholarship agreement ends on June 30, 2026. Wolves Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, described Okoduwa as an outstanding athletic defender with strong defensive one-on-one capabilities and attacking qualities in the opposition half.
Initially joining Wolves at the U15 level after being recommended by a local scout, Okoduwa transitioned from a wide midfielder to a right-back at the under-15 level and has also played extensively at left-back. His inclusion as a substitute in five Premier League matches last season reflects the high regard both the academy and first-team coaches have for him.
