Xabi Alonso confirms he will leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, SportsRation reports.
The Spanish coach made the announcement during a press conference on Friday.
Alonso, who played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2014, has been strongly linked with a return to the club as their new head coach.
The 43-year-old has enjoyed great success with Leverkusen during his nearly three years in charge.
“The club and I have agreed that the last two games of the season will be my final matches as Bayer Leverkusen coach,” Alonso said.
According to Bild, he gave an emotional farewell speech to his players in the dressing room.
However, Alonso did not confirm whether he will be taking over from Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
