Xabi Alonso set to take over Real Madrid

A new era begins at the Bernabéu

Xabi Alonso is set to become the next manager of Real Madrid, with his appointment expected to be officially announced before the club’s final match of the season on May 25, 2025. He will begin his tenure on June 1, leading the team into the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which starts on June 14 .

Alonso, 43, will replace Carlo Ancelotti, who is reportedly taking over as the head coach of the Brazil national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup . Despite Ancelotti having a year left on his contract, a mutual agreement was reached for his departure, following an underwhelming season for Real Madrid.

During his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso won the Bundesliga, German Cup, and German Super Cup . His tactical adaptability and emphasis on structured, possession-based football have been widely praised.

As he takes over at Real Madrid, fans expect him to bring in key reinforcements, like Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, a left-back, and a central defender, to strengthen the squad. His appointment marks a new era for the club, and their aim to rejuvenate the team with modern tactical approaches and leadership.
