Its been 15 years! Roger Federer to make Hopman Cup return

World number three Roger Federer will return to the Hopman Cup for the first time in 15 years after announcing he will feature in Perth in 2017.

Federer, 34, is a 17-time grand-slam champion and leads the Switzerland team for the event held in January.

The Swiss great last featured at the tournament in 2002 and cannot wait to make his return, having watched the likes of Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios this year.

Federer said: “I do remember that it was a good preparation, way back when.

“I thought it would be nice to do it again, and plus I was watching on the TV this year from Brisbane and watching the great atmosphere that was happening at the Hopman Cup when Nick was playing and Murray was playing.

“I just thought that might be cool to be part of that. I’m very happy it’s happening right now and I can’t wait to come back.

“It’s going to be a perfect tournament for me to start the season.”

Switzerland finished third in their group in 2002 before Federer went on to make the fourth round at the Australian Open.
