Yakubu Aiyegbeni: Don’t compare John Mikel Obi with Sunday Oliseh!
Former Portsmouth and Middlesbrough striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has said there should be no reason comparing John Mikel Obi and Sunday Oliseh.
The 2006 UEFA Cup finalist said his former captain, Sunday Oliseh was way better than the former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni who faced John Obi Mikel on many occasions during his spells in the Premier League with Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers – shut down claims by Daniel Amokachi that the Chelsea star was the best ever Nigerian player.
“There’s nowhere in the world you can compare Mikel to Oliseh,” said The Yak while speaking via telephone on Lagos Talks’ Sports on Wednesday.
“Oliseh was a better player than Mikel.”
Both Sunday Oliseh and John Obi Mikel had glorious Super Eagles career.
Sunday Oliseh had 54 caps, won the Olympics gold medal in 1996 and AFCON title in 1994 while John Obi Mikel won an Olympics bronze medal in 2016, AFCON title in 2013 and a total cap of 89 for the Eagles.
Have your say; Sunday Oliseh or John Obi Mikel who was the better player?
Mikel won more club trophies, but Oliseh was an all round better player.
It’s simple Mikel is a better player because of he won more trophies.
At the end of any season. Whoever scores the highest wins the golden boot award. It does not matter if all the goals were lucky or tap in.
It’s not about who won more trophies but who is a better player.
It’s not often good to make such comparisons, especially when both belonged to the same team but different generations.
Haven said that, it is equally necessary state that Sunday Olise’s Eagles was undeniably a better team, in all departments of the game, than the Eagles of Mikel. As a result, they achieved far greater glory which would be difficult to match for a long time.
Please, stop this nonsense! Who is Mikel where Oliseh is standing? Was it in energy or intelligence. Oliseh scores goes even when nobody expect it to happen.
I am an African from Zambia and a Chelsea supporter. I have seen both players on the pitch and I totally agree with the writer of this article. Oliseh was bad news, he was better than mikel.
Don’t compare Mikel with oliseh, even Mikel knows that oliseh is the boss.
