Yamal, Kane Lead 2026 Ballon d’Or Race as Award Winner Awaits Announcement
Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane are among the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or award, which will be announced in London on 26 October.
Spain and Barcelona winger Yamal is in the race after winning La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain.
England captain Kane is also a strong contender after scoring 73 goals for German champions Bayern Munich and England.
Eight-time winner Lionel Messi of Argentina and Inter Miami, as well as France forward Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid, are also among the players being considered for the award.
Several Paris Saint-Germain players have also been tipped for the honour following their success in European football.
BBC Sport asked football experts to name their preferred winners, with European football expert Guillem Balague backing Yamal to claim the award.
Balague believes the Barcelona youngster deserves the prize for his individual performances, team success and influence on the pitch.
He also noted that the presence of several outstanding PSG players could split the votes among them, giving Yamal an advantage.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or winner will be revealed in London on 26 October.
