Tiger Woods withdraws from The Open Championship
Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from The Open Championship at Royal Troon.
The 40-year-old, a three-time Open winner and 14-time Major champion, has not played competitively since August 2015 and has had two operations in an attempt to cure a back problem.
Woods told CBS Sport earlier this week: “Well, I’m playing. I just need more time. I still need to get stronger, need to recover faster and that’s just unfortunately going to take time.
“Pushing through some of my injuries, pushing through some of my rehabs, I’ve come back and I’ve won. I’ve won major championships doing it that way but this one’s different.
“This one I’m older, it takes a little longer to recover and to heal, and I’m going to do it right so I don’t have another surgery.”
