After suffering draws in midweek in the UEFA Champions League, both Newcastle United FC and Manchester United FC started the game targetting a positive result in the domestic front.
Eddie Howe and Erik Ten Hag both had a packed injury list ahead of kickoff at St James Park, Newcastle without 11 players for the match, while United missed at least seven senior members of the squad.
In the match, Newcastle dominated possesion and hit twenty-two attempts on goal with United managing just eight.
Alexander Isak had the first big-chance of the match but his shot was deflected off-target by Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire in the 19th minute.
The Magpies almost took a first-half lead when Kieran Trippier’s free-kick rattled the underside of the crossbar as the hosts piled pressure in search of the opening goal which did not arrive until the break.
In the 55th minute, Newcastle got a deserved goal when Anthony Gordon turned home a Kieran Trippier cross.
United improved as the game drew closer to full-time and thought they’d equalized in the 89th minut but the VAR ruled out Anthony’s goal for offside.
Newcastle held on to seal a 1-0 win over Manchester United FC, that victory with the cost of injury to goalkeeper, Nick Pope who limped off with a serious-looking injury.
With this result, Newcastle leapfrog Manchester United to 5th place while the Red devil’s are placed 7th with twenty-four points from 14-matches.
The Red Devils will welcome Chelsea FC to Old Trafford on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 in a Premier League matchday fifteen fixture at Old Trafford.
For Newcastle, they travel to face Everton on Thursday, December 7th before another road trip to take-on Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
