AKFA Cup: Akwa United FC defeat Dakkada FC on penalties to reach final

13-time Akwa Ibom State FA Cup winners Akwa United FC defeated Dakkada FC 5-4 on penalties to reach the final of the 2023 AKFA Cup.

A fierce derby, the first of 2023 failed to produce any goal thanks to a disciplined defensive performance by both backlines plus excellent goalkeeping by Jean Efala and Loveday Anungbo who was kept busy all through the game.

A 0-0 regulation time score In the semi-final clash at the Practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday evening required the lottery of penalties to produce a winner.

Dakkada FC Midfielder Adewale Lasisi saw his spot-kick saved by Akwa United FC goalkepeer Jean Efala in a near perfect shoot-out.

Akwa United FC converted all five kicks to better Dakkada FC and secure a place in the final vs the winner of the second semi-final between Vandrezzer FC and FC ONE Rockets on Wednesday.

With the victory, two-time Nigeria Federation Cup winners Akwa United FC have secured a spot to represent the state when the national finals get underway later this year.
