Brazil legend Carlos Alberto dies aged 72
Brazil legend Carlos Alberto has died of a heart attack aged 72.
Famous both for captaining that 1970 World Cup-winning side, and for scoring what is often described as the greatest goal of all time in the final of the same competition, the right-back played 53 times for his country, scoring eight goals.
Carlos Alberto, who has died aged 72, played the majority of his career in his native Brazil, turning out for Santos over 400 times, before finishing his career in the USA.
When he captained Brazil to a 4-1 win over Italy in the 1970 World Cup final, it was the third time in four tournaments they had triumphed and they were allowed to keep the Jules Rimet trophy forever.
