Chelsea activate Nigeria-eligible Michael Olise release clause

Big-spending Chelsea have secured an agreement with Crystal Palace to trigger the release clause of Nigeria-eligible forward Michael Olise and are set to beat Manchester City and PSG to his signature.

Chelsea have been keen to strengthen their squad this summer after an extensive overhaul which has seen them raise over £200m from player sales. They have completed a British-record signing of midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton, and are closing in on Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia.

The Blues approached France U-21 International Olise over a move earlier this summer, amid interest from Manchester City. The youngster, who is eligible for Nigeria, Algeria and England, has decided to pitch his tent with the Blues where he spent his formative years as a youngster.

Chelsea have triggered his release clause of £35m and have a broad agreement on personal terms with the 21-year-old, according to Fabrizio Romano. His younger brother, Richard, plays for Chelsea U-18 side and he was at Chelsea until U-14 level before he was released.

Olise was impressive for Crystal Palace in his time at the club since joining from Reading, and recorded 11 Premier League assists in the 2022-23 season. Chelsea will look to close the negotiations for the talented midfielder this week as they try to conclude their transfer business for the summer.
