Edo Queens, Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens in final day race for NWFL title

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six is reaching a crescendo as teams battle for the title, with Matchday Four producing contrasting outcomes and setting the stage for an exciting final day showdown.

Hosts Bayelsa Queens faced a setback in their title aspirations after a goalless draw with Heartland Queens, reminiscent of their previous encounters from the 2022/2023 season. Despite chances on both sides, neither team could find the breakthrough, extending their streak of stalemates.

With three teams—Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, and Bayelsa Queens—still in contention, the final matchday promises high stakes drama. Bayelsa Queens will clash with Edo Queens in a potentially decisive winner-takes-all encounter, while Rivers Angels’ match against Heartland Queens could also influence the title race.

Rivers Angels secured their second win of the Super Six with a 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens, courtesy of a second-half brace by Chiamaka Okwuchukwu. Despite Confluence Queens’ resilience, Rivers Angels capitalized on scoring opportunities to secure the vital win.

Meanwhile, Edo Queens narrowly edged past Nasarawa Amazons with a hard-fought 1-0 victory, thanks to Suliat Abideen’s late goal. The win propelled Edo Queens to the top of the table with nine points, setting up a thrilling title decider on the final day.

As it stands, Edo Queens lead with nine points, followed closely by Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens with eight points each. Confluence Queens, Heartland Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons complete the standings.

The final day fixtures will determine the league champions, with Edo Queens aiming to secure the title with a win over Bayelsa Queens.

However, Bayelsa Queens can also clinch the title, depending on the outcome of Rivers Angels’ match against Heartland Queens. Ultimately, the championship could be decided by goal differentials, adding to the anticipation of a thrilling conclusion to the 2023/2024 NWFL Super Six.
