Egypt and Morocco set for Bronze medal clash after semi-finals defeats
In a not-too-perfect turn of events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, African nations, Morocco and Egypt will vie for the bronze medal after a dramatic finish to their semi-final matches.
In the second semi-final, a stunning goal from Nigerian-born French star Michael Olise in the second half of extra time secured France’s place in the final. Olise capitalized on a fortuitous clearance that struck Doue and fell into his path, sealing France’s 3-1 victory.
Earlier, in a gripping encounter in Marseille, Spain overcame Morocco in their semi-final clash. Morocco took the lead with a penalty from Soufiane Rahimi, who netted his sixth goal of the tournament, and his fourth from the spot. The Moroccan fans at Stade Velodrome erupted in celebration as Rahimi’s strike gave them the advantage.

Spain, however, equalized through Fermin Lopez in the 66th minute. Lopez, a key player for Spain and a scorer in their quarter-final victory over Japan, pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired a low shot into the net to level the score at 1-1.
With the match heading towards extra time, Spain clinched victory in the 85th minute. Lopez provided the assist for Juanlu Sanchez, who slotted the ball into the far corner to secure a 2-1 win for Spain.
Morocco now faces Egypt in the bronze medal match scheduled for Thursday in Nantes. The clash promises to be an exciting battle between the two North African teams as they vie for a place on the podium.
