Ex-International Peter Ijeh names possible reason why European clubs are avoiding Victor Osimhen
Former Nigeria striker Peter Ijeh has claimed that Victor Osimhen’s attitude and character are causing potential suitors to avoid him.
Ijeh, who spent much of his career in Scandinavia, shared his views in a Facebook post on Tuesday, stating that the tight-knit European football community values attitude and character highly—something he believes Osimhen fails to understand.
“Europe is a small community that takes attitude and character as keys because it is directly influenced by children, and at the same time, they are notorious for double standards. Even Lagos is bigger than six countries, so it is more or less a community where everybody knows everybody,” Ijeh remarked, reflecting on Osimhen’s recent verbal confrontation with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George.
Osimhen has played his last match for Napoli, having decided to leave the Diego Maradona Stadium at the end of last season.
While Napoli is open to selling the player, his £100 million release clause has posed a significant hurdle in facilitating his transfer. Recently, the club lowered the sum to £85 million, attracting interest from Manchester United. However, like Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, Manchester United also withdrew and are currently in negotiations with Alvaro Morata.
Napoli reportedly offered Osimhen to Manchester United, expressing a willingness to accept Mason Greenwood plus cash in exchange. However, Manchester United did not proceed with the deal.
Adding to the complexity of Osimhen’s situation, new Napoli coach Antonio Conte has reportedly informed him that he will not be the main striker next season.
