First Bank win big, MFM ends Custom’s unbeaten run at the final 6
The Zenith Bank Plc Premier Women National Final 6 started in Lagos on Sunday on a frenetic note as First Bank Women Basketball Club of Lagos under Coachpee Ahmedu (Peter Ahmedu) recorded a massive 78-32 points win against Plateau Peaks.
The current defending Champion left no one in doubt about their intentions of retaining their title which they won in 2017 when they defeated First Deep Waters Basketball club of Lagos in the final.
It was an emotional time for Dolphins of Lagos who started their National finals campaign without its Chairman, Wale Aboderin, who died earlier this year.
In honor of his memory, Dolphins led by Ochuko Okworogun got the needed victory against a stubborn Kaduna Angels from Kaduna via a 78-73 points win as the Aboderin family led by the late Chairman’s sister came out in their numbers to cheer the team to victory.
Newly formed Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry under Coach Aderemi Adewunmi brought the 2018 unbeaten run of Customs Women Basketball Club of Abuja to an abrupt end.
The team dominated by newbies showed great resilience to make a bold statement in the apex women basketball league in Nigeria.
It was just a point that proved to be the difference between both sides as MFM WBC won by 58 points to 57.
Actions continue today by 2pm at the Indoor Sports of the National Stadium in Lagos.
MFM will still take on Customs in a reverse fixture.
Kaduna Angels will battle Dolphins while First Bank will hope to once again overpower Plateau Peaks.
This year’s competition will be played in a home and away format with the top 3 teams progressing to the semi finals with the best loser also having a shot at redemption with an automatic qualification for the semifinals.
