Harry Kane has been linked with a controversial transfer to Arsenal after news emerged of a £64m release clause in his Bayern Munich contract.
The England captain made a high-profile move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, leaving Spurs as their all-time top scorer with 280 goals. Despite the change, Kane’s aim was to find success in Germany and win major trophies, something he was unable to achieve at Spurs.
While Kane has yet to win a major title with Bayern, many expect him to do so in 2025. There are now suggestions that once Kane has secured a trophy in Germany, he may consider returning to England.
Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, has made it clear that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Kane at Arsenal, especially with the £64m release clause in his contract. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Merson said: “That could be anywhere? Oh, he’ll be going to Arsenal then. Arsenal will buy him! £64million. Why not? Sol Campbell did. If he’s available, you’ve got to weigh it up. For me, it’s a bargain.”
Merson added that even though Kane is 31 years old, his proven ability makes him a good option for a team like Arsenal, who are still in need of a reliable striker.
Arsenal have been on the lookout for a strong goal-scorer, with other targets like Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, and Viktor Gyokeres also mentioned. However, a move for Kane, given his Tottenham history, still seems unlikely for now.
