Henman: Murray can dominate men´s tennis

Andy Murray can dominate men’s tennis after surpassing Novak Djokovic at the world rankings summit, according to former British number one Tim Henman.

Murray will be confirmed as the best player in the men’s game on Monday after reaching the final of the Paris Masters, with Djokovic having crashed out to Marin Cilic in the last eight.

“I don’t think Andy was ever going to settle for second best,” Henman told BBC Radio Five Live’s Sportsweek.

“Now he’s reached number one I don’t think for any moment in time he’s going to take his foot off the gas.

“If Andy stays fit and healthy, I can see him being the dominant force going forward.

“If you’re going to put a number on it, you’d like him to get to 52 weeks at the top. Who knows from there?”

Murray climbed to world number one after Milos Raonic pulled out of their semi-final in the French capital, with Murray set to meet John Isner for the title on Sunday.

The achievement comes after Murray won his second Wimbledon title and defended his Olympic crown in Rio de Janeiro.

“Playing in the toughest era there has ever been, for him to have three Grand Slams, two Olympic golds and now the world number one, it’s an incredible achievement,” Henman added.

“It’s testament to his perseverance when you reflect over the last decade and you talk about those players he has been up against.

“I spoke to him on Saturday and he’s so level-headed. He is able to keep a pretty even keel.”
