Injured Nigerian striker ruled out for one month
Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu faces a spell on the sidelines following an injury sustained during Trabzonspor’s recent victory over Istanbul Basaksehir.
Onuachu who was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, has been ruled out of action for approximately a month.
The towering 29-year-old forward, who was Napoli star Victor Osimhen’s reserve option, made four appearances for Nigeria during the AFCON, all as a substitute.
Returning to his Turkish club Trabzonspor after the conclusion of the tournament, Onuachu was gradually reintegrated into the squad. However, his promising start was cut short when he sustained an injury in the recent match against Istanbul Basaksehir.
Milliyet reported that Onuachu suffered a fracture in his arm, necessitating a period of rehabilitation estimated to last at least a month. His absence adds to the growing list of Nigerian players who have succumbed to injuries following the AFCON.
On loan from Southampton, Onuachu has been a key figure for Trabzonspor this season, contributing nine goals and three assists to the team’s campaign.
As Onuachu begins his recovery journey, Turkish club Trabzonsor will undoubtedly feel his absence, hoping for a swift return to action for the prolific striker.
