LeBron James No Longer the Centre of Attention at Lakers?

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a confusing summer, with many unsure about where LeBron James stands with the team.
LeBron has always been the main star at every team he’s played for. But now, with Luka Dončić joining the Lakers, it seems like that’s no longer the case.
“He’s still really good. I don’t think this is his last season,” said ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
“But the fact that the Lakers didn’t talk about any contract extension with him – like a 1-year or 2-year deal – shows that things might not be fully in his control anymore.”
Because of this uncertainty, trade rumours have started. The Lakers seem to be planning for the future, while LeBron still wants to win now.
“LeBron wants to fight for a championship,” said his agent, Rich Paul, in an interview with ESPN.
“He understands that the Lakers are looking ahead, but he still wants a real chance to win. We’re thankful for our eight-year partnership with Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka. The Lakers are a big part of his career.”
Even though talk of a trade has slowed down, some people still believe LeBron might not finish the season in Los Angeles.
“The way the team has focused on Luka Dončić, not offering LeBron a new deal, and not making big signings this summer – it all suggests he could be on the way out,” wrote Grant Hughes from Bleacher Report.
“LeBron might not want to stay in a team where he’s no longer the main figure, especially if they’re not true title contenders.”
LeBron has never been traded in his career. But this season could be different. Some teams would be happy to build their squad around him, and give him the central role he’s used to.
Right now, it’s not clear what LeBron really wants — but it doesn’t seem like he’s fully happy in Los Angeles.
