Liverpool complete signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma

Liverpool have completed the signing of Roma winger Mohamed Salah on a five-year deal.

The 25-year-old, formerly of Chelsea, scored 15 times and registered 11 assists in 31 Serie A appearances during the 2016-17 campaign.

Salah was said to be a Reds target while he was at Basel before he eventually signed for the Stamford Bridge outfit for £11m in 2014.

However, he only made six Blues starts before being shipped out on loan to Fiorentina and Roma, joining the Giallorossi permanently in 2016.

Salah, who will officially join Liverpool on July 1, told the club’s official website: “I’m very excited to be here. I’m very happy. I will give 100 per cent and give everything for the club. I really want to win something for this club.

“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100 percent to win something. Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp added: “Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential – this is a really exciting signing for us. He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country.

“His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad. I have followed him since he emerged at Basel and he has matured into a really good player.”

Salah, whose transfer to Merseyside is rumoured to have cost £34m, will compete for a first-team place alongside Sadio ManeRoberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.
