Marta Kostyuk beats Sloane Stephens to reach US Open Third Round

Marta Kostyuk has reached the third round of the US Open after beating 2017 champion Sloane Stephens 6-1, 7-5.

Kostyuk controlled the opening set before Stephens produced a much stronger challenge in the second. The Ukrainian held her nerve to close out the match and secure her 35th win of 2026.

The victory sends Kostyuk into the third round of the US Open for the fourth time. She is also emerging as one of the players who could make a deep run in New York, despite much of the attention being on the four women competing for the world No. 1 ranking.
