N8 Billion: Sevilla pay staggering sum to land Nigeria’s Akor Adams
Sevilla FC has secured the signing of 24-year-old Nigerian forward Akor Adams from Montpellier in a deal reportedly worth a staggering N8 billion. The move underscores Sevilla’s commitment to strengthening their attacking options, as they aim to address their ongoing struggles in front of goal.
Adams, who will wear the number 15 shirt, arrives from Ligue 1 with notable experience, having featured in 15 matches this season for Montpellier, contributing three goals and three assists. His impressive form last year, where he finished as the club’s top scorer with double-digit goals, highlighted his potential in top-flight football.
At 190 cm tall, Adams brings a powerful physical presence to Sevilla’s forward line, offering a traditional target man that could be key to the club’s offensive strategy. His arrival is particularly significant as manager García Pimienta seeks to bolster the squad’s attacking capabilities, and Adams’ hold-up play could provide valuable support for top scorer Dodi Lukebakio, strike partner Isaac Romero, and new recruit Ronald Vargas.
Sevilla’s attacking woes have been well-documented this season, with just 24 goals in 21 La Liga matches. In response, Sporting Director Víctor Orta has prioritized strengthening the offense, and after missing out on Juninho Vieira from Qarabag, Adams’ signing aligns with Pimienta’s preference for a robust, physical forward who can integrate into a possession-based system.
Although Adams’ goal-scoring record at Montpellier and previous club Lillestrøm in Norway hasn’t been prolific, his attributes and style of play are expected to make a significant impact in creating chances and supporting his teammates in the final third.
With Akor Adams now part of the squad, Sevilla will hope the Nigerian forward can help spark a revival in their attack and contribute to climbing up the La Liga standings.
