NBA Finals: Jokic triple-double leads Nuggets to Game 1 win over Heat
Nikola Jokic recorded a triple-double as the Denver Nuggets picked up a 104-93 win over the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the 2023 NBA Finals in Denver.
Having overcome Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics respectively, the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat faced each other for the first time in the NBA Finals.
The Nuggets showed why they swept the Lakers as they dominated the game in their high-altitude arena as the Heat struggled to cope with their play. The Nuggets led each of the first three quarters of the game before a late rally from the Heat in the fourth quarter, but did enough to win the game comfortably.
Jokic finished the game with 27 points, ten rebounds and 14 assists for the Nuggets as Jamal Murray recorded 26 points and ten assists and Aaron Gordon scored 16 points for the Nuggets in the game.
Bam Adebayo led the scoring for the Heat with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Gabe Vincent contributed 19 points for the Heat as they lost Game 1. The series will continue on Sunday in Denver as the Nuggets will look to extend their sterling home record in the Playoffs this season.
