Nigeria , Japan in Prestigious FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup roll after Matchday two
Matchday two games of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup were concluded in the early hours of Monday August 14 .
Only Nigeria and Japan are in the prestigious roll of teams through to the Knockout stage of the competition after Matchday two in Costa Rica .
After the 1-0 win over France in the first game, the Falconets of Nigeria on Sunday August 14 defeated South Korea 1-0 on Matchday two to reach the Knockout .
France atoned for their opening day loss by defeating Canada 3-1 to set up a mouth watering Matchday three fixture vs South Korea with both teams tied on 3points in Group C .
Defending Champions Japan continued their title defence by claiming a second win of the competition in the 2-0 defeat of Ghana on Sunday to add to the opening day win over Netherlands .
USA lost 0-3 to Netherlands in the other Group D match .
In Group A , hosts Costa Rica will exit the tournament after a second defeat . A 1-3 opening day loss was followed by Sunday’s 5-0 mauling in the hands of Spain .
In the other Group A match of Matchday two, Brazil defeated Australia 2-0 for the first win of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup .
Spain and Brazil are tied on 4 points after shared spoils on Matchday One .
An interesting Matchday three awaits in Group B , Colombia and Mexico played a 0-0 draw while Germany defeated New Zealand 3-0 .
As it stands, Colombia lead the group with 4 points followed by Germany with 3 points while Mexico sit third with 2 points following draws in both games yet.
With a single point from the opening day draw vs Mexico, New Zealand are bottom of the Group after the defeat to Germany on Matchday two.
