Nigerian player dubbed the next ‘Rory Delap’ subject of significant interest in Europe
17-year-old Nigerian defender Babatunde Akomolede, now known as the “Nigerian Rory Delap,” is attracting significant attention in European football.
Swedish club Hammarby IF and Norwegian club Tromso Idrettslag are competing to sign him.
Akomolede, currently on loan to Sporting Lagos Academy from Broad City, has wowed scouts and fans with his exceptional throw-in skills and strong defensive play at the Gothia Cup tournament in Sweden.
His powerful throw-ins have drawn comparisons to those of former Stoke City defender Rory Delap, who was famous for using his throws to disrupt defenses and create scoring chances. Besides his throw-ins, Akomolede has shown composure, defensive strength, and the ability to assist goals.
The competition to sign Akomolede is fierce. Both Hammarby IF and Tromso Idrettslag want to secure a contract with him as soon as he turns 18. Instead of returning to Nigeria for the Value Jet Cup tournament, Akomolede has stayed in Sweden for transfer talks.
Akomolede’s standout performance at the Gothia Cup has made him highly sought after in European football. He assisted three goals with his throw-ins in a semi-final match between Beyond Limits and Sporting Lagos, highlighting his talent.
With his impressive skills and potential, Akomolede is expected to make a significant impact in football in the coming years.
