Nigeria’s CAF-Approved Stadium Numbers Raise Questions

Nigeria’s football culture is huge. But when it comes to stadiums meeting CAF standards, the country still has work to do.

A widely shared ranking places Nigeria 10th among African countries with CAF-approved stadiums, behind Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Mali, Cameroon, Libya, Tunisia and Uganda.

The figures shared put Morocco first with 16 approved stadiums and South Africa second with 13, while Nigeria is listed with just one.

Stadium standards continue to affect Nigerian clubs competing in Africa. Some teams have to look for alternative venues when their home grounds do not meet CAF requirements.

For a country with Nigeria’s football history and passionate supporters, the question is difficult to ignore:

Why are Nigerian clubs still struggling to find enough home grounds that meet continental standards?

A strong football nation also needs the facilities to match its ambition.
