NPFL23 Matchday Five: Remo Stars return to winning ways as Insurance makes it five wins from five
Rivers United, Plateau United, Kwara United all pick up wins
Remo Stars bounced back from their trouncing at the hands of Bendel Insurance to win their NPFL23 Matchday Five clash with Enyimba by a lone goal at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. Samuel Anakwe scored the game’s only goal after 17 seconds to hand the Sky Blue Stars the maximum points from the Group A clash.
Bendel Insurance extended their impressive start to life in the NPFL by claiming a fifth consecutive win this season. The Group A leaders picked up a 1-0 win over ElKanemi Warriors in their NPFL23 Matchday Five fixture in Maiduguri thanks to a first-half strike from Deputy Echeta.
Kwara United left it late to pick up their first win of the season as they overcame Akwa United 2-1 in Ibadan. The Afonja Warriors opened the scoring in the 14th minute, with Wasiu Alalade scoring their first goal of the season. The Promise Keepers equalised in the 69th minute through Cyril Olisema, who scored his first goal for the club. Two minutes after his introduction, however, Ahmed Jimoh scored the winner for Kwara United in the 87th minute to hand them all three points.
Plateau United defeated Nasarawa United at their adopted home of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna in their NPFL23 Matchday Five clash. Ibrahim Mustapha Yuga opened the scoring for Plateau United with his 50th career NPFL goal before King Osanga equalised for the home side. Ifeanyi Emmanuel scored the winner for the visitors with his fourth goal of the season to hand them the away win.
Abia Warriors returned to winning ways as they overcame Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium in their NPFL23 Matchday Five clash. Bello Lukman scored the game’s only goal in the first half to hand the Umuahia Landlords maximum points.
Lobi Stars picked up their fourth consecutive win in Group B as they left it very late to defeat Sunshine Stars 1-0. Joseph Atule scored from the penalty spot in the 93rd minute to give his side all three points from the game.
Rangers picked up their first win of the season at the expense of Dakkada FC in their NPFL23 Matchday Five encounter in Awka. Hadi Mohammed scored the only goal of the game for the Flying Antelopes in the first half.
Rivers United defeated Wikki Tourist by two unreplied goals at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt. Ebube Duru scored a free-kick before adding his second from the penalty spot shortly after the hour mark.
Bayelsa United and Doma United played out a 1-1 draw at the Sampson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa as both newly-promoted sides clashed in the NPFL23 Matchday Five clash. Samuel Enefiok put the Savannah Tigers ahead on the stroke of half-time before Osoboh Osahon equaliser for Bayelsa United in the 53rd minute.
Gombe United handed Shooting Stars a 2-1 defeat at the Pantami Stadium to increase the pressure on coach Gbenga Ogunbote. A second-half brace from Taye Yusuf put the Savannah Scorpions ahead before Ghali Falke scored a consolation goal for the Oluyole Warriors.
